Banganga is a very old place of religious significance. It is claims to be four hundred years old. This is a water tank or a pool that is surrounded by temples on four sides and stairs leading to it. The water body is believed to be a part of the holy Ganges. It’s a highly significant place for people who gather here on pious occasions and pay their tributes and offer prayers to al mighty. The story behind its existence goes back to nearly five thousand years ago at the time when lord Rama found this place on his way to search his kidnapped wife Sita. Overcome with quench for water, his younger brother Laxman shot an arrow into the ground and water gushed from the Ganga.
Banganga is a nice and unique place in a city like Mumbai where you can get some momentary solace and peace and at the same time peaceful environment of temples for a religious feel. Often people visit this water body just to escape the hustling and bustling city life and to get some momentary pause and comfort.
