The Elephanta Festival is basically a festival of music and dance in Mumbai and it is organized by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation in association with Tata Consultancy Services. This festival is held annually in Mumbai in the month of February. The main objective of the festival is to commemorate the living heritage of the dance, art and sculpture of India.
The renowned World Heritage Site, the Elephanta Islands, is a stunning and favored destination for conducting this festival. The island was once the powerful capital of a particular powerful coastal kingdom. Later on, the Portuguese found a monolithic stone elephant at this place and named it as Elephanta. The Elephanta caves are also a showcase of the legends that were created around Lord Shiva which is beautifully presented here in its entire splendor in the rock cave Temples. The festival also provides its guests a boat ride from the Gateway of India to the Elephanta Islands.
The Elephanta Festival is a tribute to the classical performers and it is also an initiative to popularize Indian classical dance and also the heritage art forms of India. India’s leading artists enthrall you with their music as well as dance recitals. Hence, the festival features eminent artists, it showcases a traditional welcome to the guests, and it includes aesthetically erected stage.
