The festival derives its name from Kala Ghoda which is a district in South Mumbai which literally means Black Horse. The Kala Ghoda Fair is held from the month of November to January on every Sunday. In the year 1988, the Kala Ghoda Association was founded solely with the aim to improvise the infrastructure of the region and also for making it known as an art district of Mumbai.
